Christianity is all about relationship. We were made for a relationship with God and there is a longing inside every Christian to know Him more and walk with Him closely. If that is true, then how do we draw near to God and stay near? What does it really look like to cultivate a quality relationship with the Lord that goes deeper than any other relationship that we have? In John chapter 15, while Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure, He assured them that their relationship could always be deep and strong. There are many truths and principles that we can draw from this conversation that will also help us as we seek to deepen our friendship with Jesus.

Every generation has experienced some sort of tension around political issues and there is no doubt that we are currently experiencing this in our times as well. Christians debate over how much and what kind of political engagement we ought to have as we follow Jesus and His Word faithfully. In the midst of answering the, “what do we do about this” question, we must reflect on the role of prayer as a means to influence political outcomes that allow for the mission of Jesus to flourish. Some people think that prayer is a passive cop-out in the face of political tension but what does the Bible say about this? What should the prayerful posture of the Church look like as we engage political realities in our current times? In our passage today, we will explore the truths that the Apostle Paul told Timothy who was facing difficult situations as he pastored the church in the city of Ephesus.

This clearly shows us that people have very different views. Democrats and Republicans have become more divided in the last 40 years and it has caused a polarity that is sometimes even seen and felt in the Church. As Christians, we cannot allow the political agendas of the world to persuade us into beliefs and behaviors that are contradictory to the way of Jesus. We must think Biblically about politics and always have a Christ-centered lens because we are disciples of Jesus, not of our culture. This means that our way forward is not about choosing a side to follow because we have already chosen a King to serve.

I think that statistic is fair and probably how most of us feel when the subject is brought up. Why Prayer Doesn't Work | Pastor Ben Dixon

Have you ever prayed and wondered why your prayers weren’t being answered? There are many things that come into our minds when prayers go unanswered. Maybe God didn’t hear me? Maybe I don’t have enough faith? Maybe I am doing something wrong, and I just don’t know what that is? The Bible doesn’t answer every question that may come into our minds, but it does give us some answers as to why prayer doesn’t always work. Practical Steps for Difficult Days | Pastor Ben Dixon

Every season of life carries both burdens and blessings. We need to remember that when we have difficult days, God doesn’t stand on the sidelines of our life and wait for us to figure things out. He already had these days in mind when He inspired the writers of Scripture to give us what we need for the times we will need it. In our passage today, James gives practical steps for several scenarios that we will find ourselves in as life unfolds. None of us have to stay stuck where we are; we can take steps and receive all that God promises as we look to Him for the wisdom we need.
